The Heavy Staring EP release party was off the chain, mane.
Hech Rhymes is a jazzy, lyrical MC from Boston Massachusetts who displays charm and flex. The storytelling prowess present in her rhymes is refreshing and often verbose, if sometimes cryptically delivered. Hailing most of her influences from the mid-90’s when boom bap and competent flows were a mainstay, hers is a throwback sound with a head nod to the new school. She can rhyme fast or slow, flossy or conscious, all while staying poised in a sage-like presence that represents an MC with objectivity and substance.
Built up from days spent in doors in an introverted manner, the flamboyant appeal from acts such as Slick Rick, Lord Finesse, The Ultramagnetic MC’s, Lost Boyz, Grand Puba, A Tribe Called Quest and Big L were part of the early inspiration that Hech draws from. MF DOOM and Mos Def were also a big part of her influence to start rhyming, with newer favorites including members of Pro Era, Charles Hamilton, and Isaiah Rashad.
Hech Rhymes has opened for Ab-Soul, Smif n Wessun, Chuck Inglish, Pete Rock & CL Smooth, Kool Keith, and People Under the Stairs, along with many local legends in her state, in her endeavor to lock down the hip-hop block. Her debut project “DUCK DUCK DILLA DOOM” (released in 2016) is a sampling of her roots in jazz, which make for an interesting match of sounds as played over MF Doom and J. Dilla beats. But you do not need to be a MF Doom addict or a Dilla-head to enjoy Hech Rhymes, whose heady raps and introspective nature outwit many of the commercial-grade rappers.
